About Luna Glassworks

Luna Glassworks is a stained glass studio run by Danielle in Norwich, Norfolk UK.

Danielle’s background is in fine art, interior design, CAD and joinery. Working primarily with stained glass windows and door panels, Danielle’s work showcases a mix of both contemporary and traditional designs whilst using a modern colour palette and mix of textures within each piece.

The Process

Danielle approached me in Summer 2023 wanting to update her existing branding to better reflect her work.

The key points of the brief were bold use of colour, thick lines (to replicate the leadwork outlines) and to experiment with opacity, texture and shape.

For the logo I wanted to experiment with a bold block Sans Serif typeface and looking at shape and form within that. Looking at the simple line of the letter ‘U’, I decided to flip this and rotate to form the ‘N’ which instantly gave the ‘Luna’ type a better balance and flow with the soft curves. Taking this exploration further, we discussed the joining of the top of the ‘U’ and bottom of the ‘N’ to create a frame or lead outline. This simple and subtle change created a strong visual wordmark which could then be worked into several different brandmarks.

Jewel tones were picked for the brand colour palette consisting of colours found within the work. Warm ambers, golds and blues were bright enough without being too strong that they would take the focus away from the work. A dark lead colour was chosen for the typography element, relating to the lead used within stained glass work.

Combining and curating the above elements has produced a bold, bright and playful identity that will be well recognised within the industry.
